History

It is a matter of debate when it comes to the date the first settlers set foot on Whenua. Currently there is an understanding between all the parties involved. Scientists and the original settler family came to the conclusion that the ancestors set foot on land in the late 15th century. It was not until the 18th century that the United Brand Nations became aware of Whenua.
For generations Whenua lived in peace. The founder family Taeo ruled over the country and generation by generation the power was given to the eldest child.
Thirty years ago, something changed with the birth of the Taeo twins. When a Whenua woman, now she has the name Nyree, the descendant of the original settlers, gave birth, something unexpected happened. She gave birth to two daughters. Never before had the Whenuans seen two identical babies. In all the chaos, no one remembered which one was the first child. The child that would become the Whenua woman in the future and rule over Whenua. At the time, no one could have predicted what consequences this would have for the future.
When the Taeo twins grew up, they were always seen as one. For the citizens of Whenua there was no Wariah Taeo neither did Haureliah Taeo exist, only the Taeo twins. Everybody in the country knew the story of the mixed up twins, who was the eldest? Who was meant to be the Whenua woman? Since no one knew the answers, the citizens of the country had peace with the taught that the twins would share the position. Until one day Wariah Taeo misbehaved.
Wariah Taeo, young and immature, made fun of a fisherman and broke his fishing rod. A shock wave went through Whenua. The once sweet Wariah was no longer considered to be the future leader of Whenua by its citizens. Now Haureliah was seen as the Whenua woman, until the moment she did something the citizens did not approve of. This was the start of the ‘going back and forth’ situation. The willing position as Whenua woman was always given to the other twin whenever one of them did something bad.
As a consequence, the Taeo twins started to see each other as concurrence. The sisterly bond they once shared was brutally broken.
The once peaceful country Whenua was known for, turned into a land that yearned for war.
In 2010 the civil war started as an outburst of anger. The Taeo twins tried to claim the position of Whenua woman. They build an army and fought for 5 long years until their mother, the current Whenua woman, got ill.
Whenua woman Nyree told her daughters to stop fighting. She obliged them to bring peace back in Whenua. The Taeo twins, stubborn as their ancestors, were not ready to forgive each other nor share the throne. An interim solution was to divide Whenua in a North side and a South side.
