As the tradition dictates, every November the people of Haka come together for the annual fishing competition. This year however, things will get stirred up. The reason? The fishing committee announced that the format of the fishing contest will change, to create a more competitive fishing contest.

Traditionally, the annual fishing competition takes place on the third Sunday of November. This year, the organizers of the fishing contest came with surprising news when they announced that the format of the fishing contest will change to make it more competitive. Instead of having one day to fish, they decided to extend it to three days! The competition now starts on Friday and lasts the whole weekend.

How can you win? There are three prizes. The first prize goes to the person who catches the largest fish. The second prize goes to the person who catches the most fish throughout the competition. The third prize is for the person who has the biggest total weight of all the fish caught.

What are the prizes? The person with the biggest total weight of fish, caught during the weekend, will get a voucher worth 100 Monua. Whoever caught to most fish will also get a voucher worth 100 Monua, as well as a brand new tokotoko ika, also known as a fishing rod. The big question is, what do you get if you caught the largest fish during the competition? The grand prize is a fishing boat! The boat comes with a brand new fishing rod and fishing net!

To end the weekend in glory, there will be a huge party on Sunday evening. Call it the afterparty for anyone who joined the contest as well as the spectators. The fish caught during the weekend will be cooked and served. A feast where you can eat as much as you please. All the food that doesn’t get eaten, will be donated to charity.
